The difficulty of the hikes are rated on a scale from 1 to 5. Remember pack weights for multi-day trips can range between 20 lbs and 45 lbs. Below are examples.
1 - Relatively flat, good trail conditions and not very strenuous. Good for beginners and novice hikers.
3 - Hikes may go for longer than several hours. Some off trail hiking may be required. Strenuous at times with some steep up and downhill. Trail conditions may be rough at times which includes; soft sand or dirt, loose rocks, slippery and steep. Should be in decent physical condition with the ability to hike with a pack for more than an hour straight without a brake.
5 - May require off trail hiking. Very strenuous. Significant amount of steep terrain. May require the use of both hands and feet at times. Rough and sometimes unstable trail conditions. You should be in excellent shape for a level 5 hike.
